director, Corporate Security – Seattle, WA
Description
JOB SUMMARY AND MISSION
This job contributes to Starbucks success by directing the strategic planning and tactical activities of the corporate security function. Directs the physical security functions at major office facilities. Leads global intelligence collection and analysis activity and identifies emerging risks to partners, assets and the brand. Directs the corporate investigations function and oversees complex criminal investigations as required. Develops the strategy and directs the operation of the protective services function accountable for the safety and security of senior executives, department or business unit leaders, international travelers or other designated persons. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Leadership – Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:
• Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
• Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote Starbucks key messages and achieve a competitive advantage.
Planning and Execution – Developing strategic and operational plans for the work groups, managing execution, and measuring results:
• Plans and manages business unit/department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with the Company’s business goals and objectives.
• Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.
• Assesses business needs and deploys department resources appropriately.
• Develops the annual operating plan, budget, and quarterly forecast updates for function.
Business Requirements – Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
• Identifies prevailing and future security risks to the business and develops relevant prevention, detection, and mitigation strategies.
• Conducts risk assessments of current and proposed business operations. Develops programs, protocols or makes recommendations to counter risks posed by ongoing global and domestic security issues.
• Directs the development and delivery of programs and activities designed to keep people safe and reduce losses to the Company
• Develops and maintains relationships with domestic and international law enforcement and government agencies for assistance in matters concerning the protection of Starbucks partners, assets, and brand.
• Directs the risk and threat analysis function, providing oversight to the collection, analysis and synthesis of risk intelligence information pertaining to Starbucks global business operations.
• Plans, develops and directs the organization’s protective services function with primary responsibility for protective programs to include personal protection, corporate facilities, residence, airfield and event security, transportation, protocol, and special projects.
Partner Development/Team Building – Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
• Challenges and inspires partners to achieve business results.
• Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
• Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
• Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
• Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business and customer results.
Qualifications
SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE
• Leadership with a major law enforcement, intelligence, public or private security organization (10 years)
• Leading executive protection teams within a large public or private organization (10 years)
• Strategy development and implementation of security programs in a major multi-unit business operation or major law enforcement agency. (5 years)
• Exposure to international security operations
• Criminal investigation or forensic fraud examination
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Ability to apply sound business principles and practices to project management and change management processes
• Ability to direct the work of others
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
• Strong leadership, people management and team building skills
• Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities
EDUCATION
• Bachelors degree or international equivalent in area relevant to this position (Masters preferred)
• Certified Protection Professional (CPP) (preferred)
