  2. Chris,

Welcome to the blog and I welcome you to fully use all the features here. I have listed all the forums that are pertinent to security contractors on the lower right hand side. The little widget boxes have information too, and I recommend signing up for the Secure Aspects Job board. You can also purchase Jake Allen's book on starting a security contracting career.

For some advice on what you can do now, get a clearance. That will be a big one if you want to get into this industry. Also, get a Ranger Tab or Sniper School (Marines or Army). Combat time is good, and try to get in at least a year overseas. If you can get any PSD type training from the military, or a medical certification, that would be awesome. Use your GI Bill and any programs to get a medical certification like EMT B or higher. That will get you some looks as well.

Then when you get out, put together your resume and fill in any missing blanks with some private training. Driving, shooting, medical, and close protection should be a focus, and get rounded. Only do reputable schools and I listed some on the side of my blog under Training.

Once you got that going on for you, apply to all the companies and call or write them to see if they received the resume. Then check all the forums and blogs and job boards, at least twice a day until you finally get picked up. Expect to get a deployment at any time. It could happen quick, or it could happen after a year and half of trying. Resolve and persistence is power.

Finally, networking is probably your best bet on getting work. If any of your buddies are contractors, definitely hook up with them. Many companies hire folks, based on the recommendations of their contractors and employees. Networking works, and get out there and mingle. Good luck, and thank you for your service. Be sure to tell your buddies about Feral Jundi too. -Matt

  5. Don,

I am not the recruiter or POC for this job, so I cannot answer any of your questions in relation to this job. If you have general questions about contracting, fire away. One bit of advice is to sign up with Secure Aspects Job Board and sign on with all the other contractor related forums. You will get tons of information from those two sources, and probably hook up with guys on the contract who can answer your questions. -matt
