Cool beans. It’s always interesting to see what new ammo the guys are using out there. It sounds like this MK 318 round is just a military version of a similar hunting round called the Federal Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, which is great. I have never shot this round, so I really can’t comment on the thing. I like the 77 gr. Sierra Matchking MK 262 round, just because it is a little heavier for the long distance stuff. But there is some question as to it’s barrier penetration I guess, and barrier penetration is what the Marines are wanting. What all of these ammunitions have in common is that they all have a hole in the bullet tip as well.
That little open tip on the bullet continues to cause controversy when it comes to the legality of the ammunition. It was intended to make the bullet more accurate. The confusion is wether or not this little hole constitutes a ‘hollow point’ or dum dum bullets, which is illegal according to the ‘law of land warfare’. (eyes rolling) My personal thoughts are that ammunition will cause pain and death, regardless, and this idea of somehow making warfare less horrible or painful is just dumb. I wonder what the Hague has to say about drone strikes? Oh wait, they didn’t have UAV’s a hundred years ago. lol
Either way, the round ‘has been approved’ for today’s war fighting, and I hope to high hell that it actually translates into more Taliban and Al Qaeda deaths. I still think we should just go to a bigger round for today’s battle rifles, or utilize the 7.62 in Afghanistan. That would make more sense, as opposed to trying to squeeze out every last bit of magical lethality out of a round that is more suited towards varmint hunting. Corps to use more lethal ammo in Afghanistan

The Marine Corps is dropping its conventional 5.56mm ammunition in Afghanistan in favor of new deadlier, more accurate rifle rounds, and could field them at any time.
The open-tipped rounds until now have been available only to Special Operations Command troops. The first 200,000 5.56mm Special Operations Science and Technology rounds are already downrange with Marine Expeditionary Brigade-Afghanistan, said Brig. Gen. Michael Brogan, commander of Marine Corps Systems Command. Commonly known as “SOST” rounds, they were legally cleared for Marine use by the Pentagon in late January, according to Navy Department documents obtained by Marine Corps Times.
Now this is funny. The goal here is to create a counter movement to the anti-gun lobby and the latest Brady* move about forcing Starbucks to kick out gun carrying customers that frequent their shops. Hopefully this movement will force Starbucks to take a courageous stand in support of the Second Amendment, and not cave into these dorks.
Also, if you want to show your support for the movement, put the Avatar up on your forum or social network page if you want, or sign the petition below. Super simple, and super fun. It is also free. You can also purchase a morale patch or t-shirt from some of the various vendors that will be offering those things in the near future. Stand by for that.
The other angle on this movement, is that the logo for the anti-gun lobby was designed to bring in anti-gun supporters for the movement. In my opinion, the logo they created will do the exact opposite. As you can see below, several folks have already modified and played around with the thing. lol I envision morale patches and t-shirts being made that are all modified to show their support for Guns and Coffee pro-gun movement. We will see, and this will be a fun little movement if we can get it moving. Thanks to the folks at Lightfighter and ITS for bringing this to the limelight. -Matt

This is great news, and I certainly hope that Indian gun owners are able to keep up the fight and secure their rights. The best part of the article though, was that little quote I put up top. The outcome of the Mumbai attack is that the police or military ‘cannot be there for everybody all the time’. Governments instead should be empowering their citizens to not only protect themselves, but actively help pass down information that leads to the arrest and capture of criminals and terrorists. To not just roll over on the ground and pee on themselves in the face of danger, and to stand up to these criminals and terrorists.
Of course the police and military needs to continue to do all they can to defend the country, as they should, but the state definitely should not get hung up on this monopoly on the application of the use of force they think they are supposed to have. Plus, having an armed citizenry will only enhance the defense of a country and keep their leaders in check. -Matt

New groups mobilize as Indians embrace the right to bear arms

In the land of Mahatma Gandhi, Indian gun owners are coming out of the shadows for the first time to mobilize, U.S.-style, against proposed new curbs on bearing arms.
When gunmen attacked 10 sites in Mumbai in November 2008, including two five-star hotels and a train station, Mumbai resident Kumar Verma sat at home glued to the television, feeling outraged and unsafe.
Before the end of December, Verma and his friends had applied for gun licenses. He read up on India’s gun laws and joined the Web forum Indians for Guns. When he got his license seven months later, he bought a black, secondhand, snub-nose Smith & Wesson revolver with a walnut grip.
Boy folks, this is a treat. The other day I was perusing the forums and stumbled upon a post over at Lightfighter that really caught my eye. This hard charger actually converted his prosthetic leg, into a concealed carry platform. I thought it was incredibly innovative and just damn cool. From AR 15′s to Glocks to knives–wow. It actually concealed pretty good too. So with J.’s permission, I have posted a few of his pictures of his work.
For some details, J. is an ‘above the knee’ amputee, and the prosthetic he has is totally adjustable and state of the art. I invite the reader to check out all of the posts pertaining to the development of this project over at Lightfigther. Maybe if there are any equipment manufacturers out there, you can contact J. or ‘zombiehunter’ on the forum and pick his brain about creating a product line. Check it out.-Matt

Robocop Phase 1
I got this idea from Pat Rogers and hal5555 along with several other buddies. It’s as close to the internal holster in robocop as I can get since I wear pants. So far its working pretty damn good. I might have to downgrade to a Glock 26 due to the grip bulge. Perfect no rattle, easily accessible.

2nd Generation Robocop
Robocop Complete. It took a couple a months but it’s finished. I followed a fellow LFer’s advice and went with a cut Glock 17. I applied super adhesive velcro (loop) from Home Depot to the leg. Loop on one side, hook on the other. This way it will stick to both leg and security band. No movement.
Standard Serpa belt fastener cut to fit Serpa LE version carry holster. Shaved the holster to prevent catching. Velcro (hook) on back to attach to security strap. Velcro hook on belt side of mag carry. Loop side on the other 3 sides. This allows for use of security band. Serpa and Rc-3 attached to leg. Extra mag attached to ankle.
Glock 17 cut down to feed 26 mags. Also textured.Not very noticeable. For instance, I went over to HAL5555′s house and he didn’t know I was wearing it.Primary mag = 10 rds+1. Secondary mag = 31. Plus the standard 17′s work if I need a spare mag in a pocket. -J.
Planet Terror Project
Yeah yeah I got jealous of that hot one legged chick in Planet Terror. I just couldnt get myself to walk on my barrel though… so I compromised.

In no way am I that paranoid to carry this as a concealed unless 1 of 2 things was happening: ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE OR BAGGY JEANS DAY (IM KIDDING). For all you “its for show… he cant even pull the charging handle back” people, your absolutely right it can’t go back when hooked on. But what can be done is one round chambered, mag ejected, on safe, non stop tac-reloads. Only time that charging handle would be required is if malfunction occurred (and I haven’t had one yet 4000+ rounds on it). And on the note of bolt being locked to the rear on empty, all I gotta do is bang the right side so it smacks the leg and the bolt release is pushed. In the 5th pic you’ll notice the selector lever is accessible finally- oh my god there’s no flash suppressor and the barrel is gonna shoot a big fireball everytime he shoots…..I couldn’t care less, I won’t feel it anyways. -J.
