5bountyBuilding Snowmobiles: The Bounty Hunter Mobile Application

This is a basic one, but I think extremely intriguing.  The idea behind this post, is that I am hoping that some programmer or entrepreneur will take this idea and run with it. Meanwhile, my ultimate goal of wanting to see an increase of criminals and terrorists being captured would be the best outcome of all, along with people making money off of the concept.

You can thank me later, if someone does take the ball and runs with it. Or maybe some whiz kid has already produced something like this? Nothing has come up on my PMC 2.0 radar that would indicate this, but if you do know of a similar concept, I would like to hear about it.

So lets get this started.  This concept is really pretty simple.  Everyone owns or will own a smart phone with GPS capability.  That is an inevitability in my opinion, and the trends in mobile phone technology and availability points to this. They will actually be free with service plans, and you are already seeing this with some of the older smart phones.

If everyone owned a smart phone with this GPS capability, then you could very well introduce a type of bounty hunter mobile application, which would connect folks who are looking for something or someone with the folks that are currently signed on with the BH application as hunters.  And what would really make it a ‘bounty’ hunter tool, is if those individuals looking for whatever, offered a reward.

The way I see this working, is that you download the program onto your phone for free or for a small fee, and have the option to participate in the program or not, based on your personal preference . Just turn on the button that puts you into hunt mode.  You can either participate as a bounty hunter, or you could be the guy or gal offering the reward.   It could be individuals, police departments, organizations, schools, telecom companies, computer companies, countries, it doesn’t matter.  The application is open to the world, and they can sign up and play, all with intent of connecting folks for a common goal and creating an industry out of it.

But here is where it really gets cool.  If you are the ‘bounty hunter’, and you turn on the hunt button, which allows the system to access your position, then the phone relays your location to the server and any applicable bounties that are within your selected area bounce back to you.  You then have the option to click on the map with all the little hunt buttons blinking near your position, and see what the bounties are.  Different color hunt buttons with various symbols on them, would indicate at a quick glance, what you have in the area to choose from. The map would be something similar to Google Maps, or even use Google Maps.

It could be a Crime Stoppers hunt, with a last known location of who they are looking for, with whatever money they are offering for information about the individuals whereabouts. It could be a little girl who is looking for her dog that was lost, and she posted a last known location and is offering a twenty dollar reward for the dog’s whereabouts.

The application could spark up internationally when you travel, if you turned on the hunt button.  Let’s say you are in Mexico or Pakistan, and you turn on the hunt button and you see all sorts of bounties flashing in the area you are at, all based on your location fed into the hub by your GPS enabled phone. And boom, you see some hunt buttons, and a wanted criminal pops up, and low and behold, you see him at the airport or at a gym, and you send a quick email with a camera phone picture through that hunt button screen.  Or you just send the email, or text message, or phone call directly to the individuals that would need that information. The transaction of information is just between you and the party seeking that information out, and that is it.

Now I know there are all sorts of legalities to think of, and each state and country has it’s own thing going on when it comes to the concept of actual bounty hunting.  But this application is really just taking the current rewards programs from all over the world, and giving them a little boost with a handy mobile phone application.  Who knows, a citizen  with this application, could be in the right place at the right time, all because they were willing to participate.  I believe this mobile application, or something similar, could be quite effective.

Finally, some other features I would add to this application, is continuing versions with more capability. That, and the Rewards list must be monitored, so it is not used for ill intent.(you must maintain the quality and legalities of it with moderators, or build that kind of control into the program itself)  You could have Bounty Hunter Version 1, or Pro Bounty Hunter Version 3, or Free Bounty Hunter, etc. etc. You could also create widgets from a main website for Bounty Hunter, that individuals could put on their websites or facebook pages or whatever. How about a Multiplayer Game on Facebook that incorporates this concept, with finding people and things, and actually makes it a game like Mafia Wars or Farmville? I would also make this available for all smart phones, and you could downloaded it through iTunes.

The power of this application and idea is the ability to connect those who want help in finding someone or something for a price, and those that are wanting someone or something so bad that they are willing to pay a reward for that information. Tell me what you think, and if you are a cop, actual bounty hunter or lawyer, I would really like to hear from you as to the potential pitfalls, if any, that could come up with something like this. -Matt

Edit: 01/02/2010- I wrote to the folks at MapItApps to see if there is any interest in this thing.  I think they would be the best ones for the job, and if you check out their website, they have tons of cool apps revolving around a map.
