The incumbent guards Federal property from hazards such as sabotage, trespass, theft, fire, and accidental or willful damage and destruction. Incumbent prevents, responds to, and/or resist attempted violations, apprehend and detain offenders. Patrols on foot or by vehicle. Enforces administrative rules and regulations governing parking, building or other facility access. Assures buildings, grounds and project facilities are secured and electrical equipment is turned off. Detects and reports on faulty fences, trespass violations, and attempted thefts on Federal property, equipment, tools and supplies. Maintains a log to record significant events occurring during shifts. Monitors radio equipment and recording data as necessary. Monitors and uses alarm and surveillance equipment. Monitors and controls public access to the project. As required, cooperates and coordinates with other private, federal, state and local public safety personnel regarding Project security issues. The incumbent is required to carry a firearm. Incumbent is required to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays. Performs other duties as assigned.
The work requires, on a regular and recurring basis, considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing of multiple flights of stairs, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restrictive areas during search or pursuit activities, or defending oneself or others against physical attack. Must demonstrate on a biennial basis that physical requirements are met.
The work environment regularly involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress which require a range of safety and other precautions (e.g., subject to possible physical attack or mob conditions or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.) This level includes work in a high crime area where the public has easy access and officers must patrol in locations where persons may be armed while attempting theft, vandalism, narcotics transactions, acts of terrorism, and other offenses which can lead to assault with or without a weapon in order to avoid arrest.
Qualifications and Evaluations
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
You must show that you must possess the basic qualifications as described below.
To qualify at the GG-04 level you must have six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-03 in the federal service.
OR
Have successuflly completed at least two full years above high school at an accredited college or university in any subject.
Successful completion of training in an accredited technical school that covered subjects such as physical security procedures, local laws, or investigative techniques is considered qualifying for specialized experience at the GS-04 level on a month-for-month basis.
To qualify at the GG-05 level you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 in the federal service.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE is experience that has included administrative, technical, clerical, military, or other work that involved following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with coworkers, supervisor, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is experience that equipped the applicantwith the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to performsuccessfully the duties of this position, and is directly relatedto the work of this position.
Specialized Experience is further defined as: Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order or protecting life. Such experience must have provided knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.
You must Pass a Basic Tactical Training course approved by the Texas Board of Private Investigators (if already obtained must have been within the previous five years) or has a current Texas private security officer commission.
You must pass a pre-employment and periodical physical examinations.
You must possess a valid state driver’s license; have a good driving record and be able to operate a government motor vehicle on improved roads and in areas where there are no improved roads. If you do not or cannot comply with this requirement at any time, you will be removed from the position.
