Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Security and Safety Section (SSS), the incumbent serves as the Team Leader of the Protection Unit and is responsible for the following duties: – Advise the Chief, SSS, on personal protection operations; – Prepare personal protection policy, direction, guidelines and standing operating procedures. – Develop a personal protection training programme for all UNAKRT Protection Unit staff and, as required, for protected persons (Principals); – Conduct personal protection tactics and techniques training; – Develop personal protection requirements and input into the mission-budget process; – Operate and maintain personal protection equipment. – Supervise the Protection Unit. – Coordinate with Host Country authorities and other relevant authorities on personal protection operations; – Produce security risk assessments for the Principal, the Principal’s residence and office and for specific activities of the Principal, recommend risk mitigation measures and, as directed by the Chief of Security, implement those measures. – Coordinate and conduct personal protection operations, in accordance with UN personal protection standards, for the protected persons while on duty. – Act as a Protection Officer and/or Protection Focal Point, as required. – Act as a Security Driver in the performance of assigned duties, as required. – Carry out all other duties as assigned by the Chief of Security.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical or vocational certificate in military or police procedures as well as training in close protection, self-defense and security techniques is desirable.

Work Experience

At least eight years progressively responsible experience in close protection with a local, national, private or international security organization. Proficiency in the use of personal protection weapons, communications/surveillance equipment and close protection transportation.

Languages

Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of a second UN language, preferably French, is an advantage. Fluency in Khmer is an advantage.

Other Skills

Qualification to operate UN approved sidearms (Glock 9mm) and other weapons (HK MP5, PR-24 and/or ASP, OC Spray) is required.
