  1. Man, that's really low paying with the pound as week as it is now. I think guys are still making $5000/mo. plus in Kuwait now.

  2. It is low. Funny how the salaries drop in Iraq, because of less 'perceived' risk, yet when the risk goes up in Afghanistan, the salaries stay the same.

I also think that Iraq could become extremely dangerous for contractors in the near future. The transition period, with new laws and rules, a new US President, and a slow and steady draw down of Coalition forces, could mean a lot of complex and dangerous work for the guys. Who knows, and we will see how it works out.

  4. Hey Paul,

I guess my only advice is to keep following this blog, because every once in awhile I come across some interesting stuff. But at this time, I do not know of anyone that is openly hiring. In country point of contacts are good, because a ton of companies are filling positions here and there through their own networks.

As for a job hunting strategy, sign up with as many groups, forums, and job boards as you can. Secure Aspects Job Board is a good one, and so is the GWOT Jobs one. Also, check the forums out there at least once a day and try to network with those guys.

The other thing is now that the election is over, we might see some movement in the industry over the coming days and months. Companies can plan based on Obama's objectives as a President in the war effort.

Money is also an issue for the companies. The economic crap is obviously going to impact stuff, and has.

But back to tangible information for jobs, check out these forums and keep your ears to the tracks. (I apologize if I missed any other good ones)
