News: Mufsid Fail To Breach US Embassy in Yemen During Attack

Two VBIED’s at two entrance points, with snipers as well.  These guys were also wearing police uniforms and had a small force on foot that tried to enter through the attack points.  Looks like these mufsid failed to get in, thanks to the good work of the security professionals guarding the embassy.  Unfortunately, 16 people died in this attack. –Mudeer

Bush: Embassy attack a reminder nation ‘at war’

By MATTHEW LEE

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush says the attack on the U.S. embassy in the capital of Yemen is a reminder that the United States is “at war” with extremists.

Attackers armed with automatic weapons, rocket-propelled grenades and at least one suicide car bomb assaulted the embassy. Sixteen people were killed, including six assailants. No Americans were hurt.

The U.S. says the assault has “the hallmarks of an al-Qaida attack.” The United States says a “vicious” attack on the U.S. Embassy in the Yemeni capital was a failed attempt to breach the compound’s walls.

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters Wednesday that the embassy’s security upgrades, combined with the response of security officials, stopped attackers armed with automatic weapons, rocket-propelled grenades and at least one suicide car bomb.

Officials say sixteen people were killed, including six assailants.

McCormack says no Americans were hurt. He says one U.S. embassy guard from Yemen was killed, along with several Yemeni security officials.

He says the assault bears “all the hallmarks of an al-Qaida attack.”

Technology: Social Networking Technology, The War, and Security Contractors

Ok, this is a plea to the powers that be.  If civilian contractors are the second largest force that is assisting in this war with 133,196 (2007 CENTCOM Census) +/- contractors out there, why do we not have access to a network?  This TIGR system, or basically Myspace for the military is an awesome idea.  But it completely ignores the input from thousands of us security contractors overseas that actually have some good intel on the various areas.

Or if we cannot be involved with TIGR, then set up a separate system for us?  It makes sense to me, and in many ways, we all are communicating on various forms of social networks.  Forums for one, has been a huge deal for uniting contractors and passing down information. But forums are also poorly organized.  Myspace and Facebook are popular too, but yet again, they are not organized to suite the main goal of enhancing the war effort.  Nor are these outlets necessarily secure.  So really, OPSEC and PERSEC is left to the whims of those posters or the moderators of forums.

I say an easy solution to all of this, is to create a secure TIGR type system for contractors, that could be monitored by someone in the proposed Advisory Corps that John Nagl proposed.  Or just find a relevant office, in the sea of departments in the DOD or DOS that could babysit something like this.

Update on Hurricane Ike and the Texas disaster response.

By Doug

Many of my friends & their familes are involved in rebuilding houstons infrastructure.

Things are still bad in places. lots of folks still crapping in buckets & sitting around candles at night.

Things are improving rapidly.  everyone is very optimistic 60% of houston will be electrified by thursday night.

Power crews working night and day.

The water has just been announced that it is clean to drink from the tap.

Gas is a problem though.  most gas lines are still long, but it is a lot better than yesterday.

So its good to hear that even though it is still bad. things are improving rapidly.

Give it 2-3 more weeks and most things will be back to almost normal.

Though it will take months to clean up all the debris

News: Feral Jundi Update – Small Wars Journal and Defense Industry Daily Widgets

I wanted to add two new widgets to FJ for everyone to check out if they want.  One is the Defense Industry Daily and the other one is Small Wars Journal(which Nagl is one of the contributing authors of).  If the readership would like to see any other widgets, I am open for suggestions.

And by the way, the way these widgets work, is that they are miniature RSS(Really Simple Syndication) readers.  Every time that website or blog updates and adds new information, my widgets read that and post it.

So like I have mentioned before, keep an eye on them, because new jobs or news or important industry stuff comes in all the time.

You can also grab these widgets for yourself and put them up on your Myspace, Facebook, websites or whatever, and check them out on your own site.  They are great for adding content to your site.

Also, I have a Feral Jundi widget available for anyone if they are interested. And at this time, about 12 readers have set up this widget on their websites.  If you would like further instructions about these things,  let me know and I will hook you up. –Head Jundi
