Industry Talk: Peter Moore Reunited With Family As Argument Rages Over Deaths

You know, the way these security contractors were just killed and thrown away by these captors is just deplorable. It is just like how they did the guys at Crescent, and with Nick Berg. The enemy didn’t sign on to the Geneva Convention, and they could care less about your life.  Fighting to your death is probably your best option……if you even can fight to the death.  If not, and for whatever reason you do get captured, may god have mercy on your soul.  I think in that case, hope and constant dedication to any means of escape are things that will get you through.  The Code of Conduct could be somewhat of a guide, along with the industry best practice for surviving hostage situations.  Other than that, just don’t get captured. –Matt

Peter Moore reunited with family as argument rages over deaths

January 2, 2010

Sean O’Neill, Crime and Security Editor

Peter Moore arrived back in Britain last night as criticism continued to grow of the Government’s handling of the Iraq hostage crisis.

A chartered aircraft carrying Mr Moore landed at RAF Brize Norton, Oxfordshire, shortly after 5pm. He was later reunited with his stepparents, Fran and Pauline Sweeney, at an undisclosed location.

Mr and Mrs Sweeney, from Lincoln, said that they were “thrilled to have Peter back safely”. They asked for the chance to spend some time with him.

“We have a lot of catching up to do and would like to have time with Peter on our own,” the couple said.

Mr Moore, 36, was flown from Baghdad to the Jordanian capital Amman yesterday morning, then transferred to an aircraft operated by the security company International SOS for his return to Britain. He was accompanied by consular staff from the British Embassy in Baghdad and was met at the RAF base by an official from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

PMC 2.0: Giving The Bounty Hunter Mobile Application Life–Zynga, MapItApps, And Raytheon

Ok, this is a challenge to Zynga and MapItApps or even Raytheon.  I have laid out the concept of the Bounty Hunter Mobile Application or BMHA, and all of these companies are the ones who could actually give life to it.

You might have heard about the first company, through their very famous website games like Mafia Wars or Farmville. (man, do you guys like playing those games, cause I am always getting some message about one or the other on Facebook)  They are called Zynga, and they have the capability to do some very interesting things.  My idea with the BHMA. is to use a game to promote the application and the act of finding things or people.  Imagine if there was a Bounty Hunter game, and every widget posted to a Facebook or Myspace page, had a link to the BHMA?  Imagine if the faces or things were intermixed within the fabric of the game, thus reinforcing the visual memory of these things and people.  Instead of using some digital cartoon to represent something in the game, you actually use a picture of a most wanted individual.  You get the idea, but the main goal of this game, is marketing. You could do something similar with games like Call of Duty or Rainbow Six, and just make the various bad guys in the games, real.

Al Qaeda: The Gitmo ‘Catch And Release’ Program

Overall, 14 percent of the more than 530 detainees transferred out of Guantanamo are confirmed or suspected to have been involved in terrorist activities since their release.

*****

This is as ridiculous as what we are doing with these Somali pirates when we catch them, which is release them. So what do you know! Piracy and terrorism is a kick as means of crime or waging war in today’s world.

To me, this is a prime example of non-state actors, utilizing their strategic advantage of ignoring or abusing the borders and laws of states, in order to achieve their goals. It works very well.

The question I have, is how do you defeat non-state actors?  Terrorists, pirates, organized crime, and drug cartels are all non-state actors…so how do you defeat them?

I have some ideas based on how societies and countries have dealt with these issues in the past, but I guarantee the ‘state’ really doesn’t want to hear it. Here is a hint. Laws like Article 1, Section 8 in the U.S. Constitution are in there for a reason. –Matt

Former Gitmo detainees help al-Qaida grow in Yemen

By MIKE MELIA and SARAH EL DEEB

Dec 31, 2009

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – As a prisoner at Guantanamo, Said Ali al-Shihri said he wanted freedom so he could go home to Saudi Arabia and work at his family’s furniture store.

Instead, al-Shihri, who was released in 2007 under the Bush administration, is now deputy leader of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, a group that has claimed responsibility for the Christmas Day attempted bomb attack on a Detroit-bound airliner.

His potential involvement in the terrorist plot has raised new opposition to releasing Guantanamo Bay inmates, complicating President Barack Obama’s pledge to close the military prison in Cuba. It also highlights the challenge of identifying the hard-core militants as the administration decides what to do with the remaining 198 prisoners.

Like other former Guantanamo detainees who have rejoined al-Qaida in Yemen, al-Shihri, 36, won his release despite jihadist credentials such as, in his case, urban warfare training in Afghanistan.

He later goaded the United States, saying Guantanamo only strengthened his anti-American convictions.

“By God, our imprisonment has only increased our persistence and adherence to our principles,” he said in a speech when al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula formed in Yemen in January 2009. It was included in a propaganda film for the group.
