Job Summary:
The Office of Security is looking for bright, energetic and
dedicated professionals committed to making a difference by
assisting Department of Commerce leaders reduce the security risks
in emergency management, anti-terrorism, and counterespionage.
The selected candidate will support the Department’s goal of keeping
the Secretary and his designees staff from the very real threat of
harm.
Key Requirements:
Must meet the qualification requirements for the grade (see Qualifications)
Must meet the requirement of the Lautenberg Amendment (See Quals.)
Completion of basic Police/Criminal Investigation course (See Quals.)
Be under age 37 or have qualifying Federal Civilian LEO exp. (See Quals.)
Major Duties:
As supervisor for the Secretary’s executive protection team, the
incumbent will support the Department’s goal of keeping the
Secretary and his designees safe from the very real threat of harm.
This includes overseeing the travel plans of the Secretary and
ensuring proper protection before, during and after arrival at
designated stops, handling security before and during visits and
stops; and ensuring that all laws and policies, including Federal,
state, local and international, are followed. The incumbent will
also guide policy and programmatic efforts in the areas of executive
protection by advising operating unit heads and other senior-level
officials on matters related to security, intelligence, law
enforcement and other executive protection related procedures.
Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Implementing the day-to-day operations of executive protection
functions;
Coordinating protection detail missions and supervising agents
during all aspects of protection missions;
Traveling both domestically and internationally with the Secretary
and other heads of state and dignitaries;
Investigating criminal acts against Departmental personnel and
property;
Providing guidance to top management officials; and interpreting
regulations which impact the Department; and
Establishing and fostering open, collaborative communication with
Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, other protective
details and intelligence community professionals, and nurturing
professional associations that will enhance the full range of
Departmental security programs.
Qualifications:
This position is being offered at the ZA-IV band, which
encompasses the GS-13/14 grades. This position is advertised at its
full promotion potential.
The appointee must be able to qualify for Law Enforcement Officer
(LEO) retirement (see the Qualification section below for the
definition and requirements of LEO retirement).
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Special
Sensitive (SCI) Secret clearance.
Any required investigations and clearances must be completed before
the selectee can be placed in the position.

required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use
prior to appointment.
The incumbent will be expected to perform overtime duty if deemed
necessary by supervisory authority.

Travel (international and domestic) is a part of the expected duties.
Overtime may be required at the discretion of management.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To qualify for the position at the ZA-IV band, you must meet the
following minimum qualification standard: You must have at least 1
year of specialized experience which is equivalent to at least next
lower grade level (GS-11/12 OR Band III). Specialized experience is
that which equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and
abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and
should include, but is not limited to, ensuring proper protection of
the Secretary and his designees, ensuring all laws and policies are
followed, and guiding policy and programmatic efforts in the areas
of executive protection by advising on matters related to security,
intelligence, law enforcement and other executive protection related
procedures.
NOTICE:
In addition to meeting the requirements for the grade you must meet
the following three requirements which are selective factors:
1. You have not have reached your 37th birthday, or, if you have,
you MUST submit evidence of previous qualifying service in a Federal
Civilian Law Enforcement position covered by special civil service
retirement provisions, including early or mandatory retirement which
can offset the amount of time by which you have exceeded your 37th
birthday.
2. You must have and submit evidence documenting your satisfactory
completion of the Basic Police/Criminal Investigative training
course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco,
Georgia, or an equivalent Federal, State or City training course
(refer to Question 1 in the questionnaire).
3. You must have the ability to serve in this position as, in
accordance with 18 USC, Section 922(g)(9) (Lautenberg Amendment), as
you have not been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic
violence and are prohibited from possessing firearms and
ammunition (refer to Question 1 in the questionnaire).

How You Will Be Evaluated:
The Human Resource Division’s review of applications is a three-step
