Jobs: Olympic Security Jobs With G4S, United Kingdom

I thought I would put this out there for the guys across the pond. Although I am sure many have already heard about this and have acted accordingly. What is cool is that over at Close Protection World, it looks like representatives are looking for some security pros who can fill out management positions that pay a little better. The first post below describes what they are looking for and the pay. Use the email provided to send a CV or go to the forum itself to find out more information.

The other articles I posted below describe the enormity of the event. They have to fill 10,000 positions and get background checks on all of them. So lots of work is required to make sure that just the security force is squared away and actually ‘secure’. –Matt

34,000 apply for 2012 security jobs
01/26/2012
There have been 34,000 applications for more than 10,000 jobs as private security staff at the London 2012 Games, security firm G4S has said.
So far, 20,000 of the G4S applications have been made by London-based residents and 4,500 roles have already been allocated.
The 23,700-strong security force that will be deployed for the Games is a mix of military, private security guards and at least 3,000 unpaid London 2012 volunteers who will be used at the start of the security process.
The military will provide 13,500 personnel, which is more than the 10,000 that were deployed to Afghanistan.
G4S staff will be paid from £8.50 an hour in what the company is billing as “the biggest paid recruitment drive of the century”.
The firm opened the doors to its recruitment centre in east London, a stone’s throw away from the Olympic Park in Stratford.
Candidates will be asked to attend an interview at the recruitment centre, where they will go through a screening and vetting process before their application is submitted to London 2012 for accreditation.
The recruitment centre will also serve as a training facility, where new recruits will be put through their paces and provided with role-specific training to ensure they are fully prepared for the Games.
Would-be security staff will face a thorough screening, according to London 2012 chief executive Paul Deighton.
He said: “This is G4S’s core business and they have rigorous processes. On top of that, we have an Olympic accreditation process with a series of checks so this is about as tough as it can possibly be.”

London 2012 Olympics: private security jobs for Games will be filled, says security boss
There will be no issues recruiting and training suitable candidates for over 10,000 London 2012 private security jobs, despite less than four people applying for each position, it has been claimed.

A recent study from a major recruitment website claimed that an average of 23 people were chasing every job in Britain, yet with only 34,000 applying for the Games security positions interest is well below that mark.
But Mark Hamilton, managing director of Olympic security provider G4S, said they were currently exceeding their recruitment targets for this stage.
At the launch of a Newham-based recruitment centre for the jobs, Hamilton said that 4,500 of the positions had already been allocated and insisted that there had been a strong interest from Londoners, with over 50 per cent of applications coming from the capital.
They will be paid wages that start at £8.50 an hour – higher than the London Living Wage – and will receive a security license which permits them to work in the industry for three years.
“The recruitment drive is above target in terms of the number of applicants we expected at this time,” said Hamilton. “We’re very happy with the response so far. We’ve launched this recruitment centre today to make people aware of the fantastic opportunities available here.
“By working as a security officer you will get a license which acts as a permit to work for another three years and gives you the chance to enter into the security industry well after the Games.”
Employment of British people in London has come under scrutiny in recent weeks, with Mayor Boris Johnson commenting on the ‘Pret a Manger phenomenon’, which sees a relatively low number of British staff employed at the successful sandwich chain’s London branches.
But Hamilton insisted that every effort would be made to find jobs for those living locally to the Olympic Park, before pointing to the fact that 20,000 Londoners had already applied.
“Our recruitment drive offers unique employment opportunities to thousands of Britons,” he said.
“We’re encouraging everyone to apply, particularly [those] around the host boroughs surrounding the Olympic Park. We already have a high number of employees deployed around the Park who live in the six boroughs.”
Newcomers to the security industry will be trained so they can operate alongside 13,500 military personnel, 3,000 unpaid volunteers and the police, to make up a 23,700-strong security force for the Olympics and Paralympics.
The private security officers will carry out a number of duties including bag and vehicle searching.

  1. Thanks for the information. I wonder if this course will be hosted at the same facility Shadow Company filmed about in Canada, as this company had previous training courses at that facility.

  2. FYI for all, GIobe Risk is Allen Bell's outfit as he was one of the experts featured on Shadow Company. GRI is the lead in this course and being facilitated by MSR which was formally EES who put a lot of folks to work by recruiting for the Maritime Work. Thanks Sam.
