Cool Stuff: Converting Your Ashes Into Ammunition, By Holy Smoke LLC

Thanks to Chad for letting me know about this awhile back. This group will actually convert your ashes into ammunition. For the rifle rounds, they put the ash in a bullet, and then I think they swage the thing. Although I am not sure about the ballistics of these bullets, but still, I thought it was pretty cool.

The reaction on FJ Facebook was pretty amazing as well. Numerous guys were all about converting their ashes into some kind of munition that could be sent back to the war and be used by the troops. Check it out. –Matt

Holy Smoke LLC
About Us
We offer a way to honor your deceased loved one by giving or sharing with him or her one more round of clay targets, one last bird hunt, or one last stalk hunt.?The Concept?Several years ago I was talking with my friend and co-worker at work one evening. We were discussing the passing of one of our relatives and the topic of conversation turned to our own demise and whether we preferred burial or cremation.  I told my friend that I had some cost, waste of space and ecological issues with burials and that I thought I wanted to be cremated and in some fashion, have my ashes tossed into a river or spread through the woods.  ?My friend  smiled and said “You know I’ve thought about this for some time and I want to be cremated. Then I want my ashes put into some turkey load shotgun shells and have someone that knows how to turkey hunt use the shotgun shells with my ashes to shoot a turkey. That way I will rest in peace knowing that the last thing that one turkey will see is me, screaming at him at about 900 feet per second.

Cool Stuff: GPal, Inc.

I like it!  GPal or Gun Pal is an alternative online payment system that you can use to purchase anything ‘legal’.  So if you want to buy a firearm from someone using GPal, you can do that and your account will not be frozen.  With the other online payment groups, they are not at all gun or ammo friendly, so GPal is definitely a gun friendly alternative. (for US folks)

The other important tidbit to mention here, is that you don’t have to use it for firearms or ammunition.  You can use it just like you use Paypal, to buy all types of things or services ‘that are legal’.  As you can see with the name change, they had to make it less specific of a title to symbolize it’s utility. Customers might get the impression that it is purely for gun or ammo purchases, and that is not the case.

Good move and I hope it takes off. I would be curious if any of the readers have signed up for GPal and what their thoughts were about the service? –Matt

HEALDSBURG, CA – October 29, 2009 (For Immediate Release)

“GUNPAL, Inc. is a transaction-neutral online payments platform with a philanthropic spirit,” announces Founder/CEO Ben Cannon. “It is also the first serious competitor for PayPal Inc.”

A percentage of each transaction is donated to a selected charity at no additional cost to the user. The initial list of organizations includes the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, and the Supercomputing Disease Research Center. Users can also suggest charities for consideration.

An avid supporter of constitutional rights, Cannon created a discrimination-free online payments application, starting with the recognition of the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

Prohibited by PayPal’s “Acceptable Use Policy”, the $3 billion firearms and accessories industry has adopted GUNPAL as the payments platform of choice. “Firearms can only be sold by licensed dealers. GUNPAL is more convenient than other forms of payment as its comprehensive transaction tracking system is secure and reliable for our audits,” says Mitchel Chapman of WBtactical.com, a licensed firearms dealer.

An estimated one hundred million firearm owners nationwide now have a platform with which they can trade ammunition, scopes, and other accessories securely and hassle-free. As a socially responsible company, GUNPAL directs its firearm buyers to government documentation on current firearm laws and regulations and will provide licensed dealer listings by buyers’ zip codes in a future release. Having dominated the firearms niche, GUNPAL is already targeting other under-served markets with several new projects under way.

With every line of code written in-house, most of the engineering effort has been dedicated to fraud prevention. GUNPAL’s unique anti-fraud and anti-phishing systems take a finer-toothed comb through customer data for maximum privacy and security. Reduced fraud cuts operating costs resulting in lower fees for most common transactions as compared to PAYPAL. Cannon’s first company, GeoVario, LLC, was the natural choice for web-hosting services.

Founded in 2004, GUNPAL is a transaction-neutral online payment system that allows easy transfer of funds to anyone with an email address. Privately funded, GUNPAL has revolutionized the transfer of money with its pro-constitutional voice, unique anti-fraud approach, and philanthropic spirit. The company is expected to expand its services internationally in the near future.

Weapons Stuff: The Marines To Use MK 318 MOD 0 Ammo In Afghanistan

Cool beans.  It’s always interesting to see what new ammo the guys are using out there.  It sounds like this MK 318 round is just a military version of a similar hunting round called the Federal Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, which is great.  I have never shot this round, so I really can’t comment on the thing. I like the 77 gr. Sierra Matchking MK 262 round, just because it is a little heavier for the long distance stuff.  But there is some question as to it’s barrier penetration I guess, and barrier penetration is what the Marines are wanting. What all of these ammunitions have in common is that they all have a hole in the bullet tip as well.

That little open tip on the bullet continues to cause controversy when it comes to the legality of the ammunition. It was intended to make the bullet more accurate.  The confusion is wether or not this little hole constitutes a ‘hollow point’ or dum dum bullets, which is illegal according to the ‘law of land warfare’. (eyes rolling)  My personal thoughts are that ammunition will cause pain and death, regardless, and this idea of somehow making warfare less horrible or painful is just dumb. I wonder what the Hague has to say about drone strikes? Oh wait, they didn’t have UAV’s a hundred years ago. lol

Either way, the round ‘has been approved’ for today’s war fighting, and I hope to high hell that it actually translates into more Taliban and Al Qaeda deaths. I still think we should just go to a bigger round for today’s battle rifles, or utilize the 7.62 in Afghanistan. That would make more sense, as opposed to trying to squeeze out every last bit of magical lethality out of a round that is more suited towards varmint hunting. Also, check out this publication called ‘Increasing Small Arms Lethality in Afghanistan: Taking Back the Infantry Half-Kilometer’  here. Pretty interesting. –Matt

Corps to use more lethal ammo in Afghanistan

By Dan Lamothe

Tuesday Feb 16, 2010

The Marine Corps is dropping its conventional 5.56mm ammunition in Afghanistan in favor of new deadlier, more accurate rifle rounds, and could field them at any time.

The open-tipped rounds until now have been available only to Special Operations Command troops. The first 200,000 5.56mm Special Operations Science and Technology rounds are already downrange with Marine Expeditionary Brigade-Afghanistan, said Brig. Gen. Michael Brogan, commander of Marine Corps Systems Command. Commonly known as “SOST” rounds, they were legally cleared for Marine use by the Pentagon in late January, according to Navy Department documents obtained by Marine Corps Times.

This is neat, and for those of us in the US, ammunition is tough to get at a good price.  So anything that helps the buyer out in finding the best price, is alright with me. I wish I was in the ammo business as well, because those guys are making bank right now. Check it out. –Matt

Weapons Stuff: Finding Good Deals on Ammunition

This little post will be quick.  A huge part of this industry, is training.  In order to keep your shooting skills sharp, you do a ton of dry firing, but eventually you need to ‘pull some trigger’ and shoot some live stuff.  So how do you find good deals on the ammunition you need?  Well, I have found one answer to that question.

At Gun Deals.com , they actually have a section dedicated to searching the web for the best prices on ammunition.  And not only does it do that, but it accepts suggestions from anyone, about where to get the best deals on ammo.  So it is a hybrid search engine of a sorts.  The bottom line, is you just input what ammo you are looking for, and all the current prices for tons of different manufacturers will come up.

It is one of those sites, that you could use for last minute purchases, or you could continue to watch it over time, and move in on a good deal when you see it.  There are similar sites out there, and if anyone else has a favorite ammunition deals search engine besides just a plain Google Search or going to a gun show, I am all ears.  -Head Jundi
