Bounties: The FBI Offers $50,000 Reward For Ahmad Abousamra–A US Citizen From Massachusetts

The FBI just put this one out, and I thought I would give them a little help on getting the word out. This guy is currently in Syria, but he might have contacts in the US that he communicates with. Hopefully some of my international readers will see this as well and help out. Every little bit counts, and let’s catch this guy. –Matt

FBI offers $50K reward for Mass. terrorism suspect
10/03/2012
A $50,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of a Massachusetts man who is wanted on terrorism charges, the FBI said Wednesday.
The FBI said it is seeking the public’s help in locating Ahmad Abousamra, a U.S. citizen from Mansfield who authorities believe may be living in the battleground Syrian city of Aleppo with at least one child, a daughter, and extended family. He uses several aliases.
Abousamra, now 31, fled the United States in 2006, shortly after being interviewed by the FBI.
The FBI says Abousamra is an associate of Tarek Mehanna, a Sudbury man convicted on four terrorism charges and sentenced this year to 17 1/2 years in prison.
Abousamra was indicted in 2009 after taking multiple trips to Pakistan and Yemen, where he attempted to obtain military training for the purpose of killing American soldiers overseas, the FBI said. He also traveled to Iraq in the hope of joining forces fighting against the United States, but the exact nature of his activities there is unknown, the FBI said.

Bounties: The FBI Posts A Reward For Catherine Greig, The Girlfriend Of Fugitive James ‘Whitey’ Bulger

I love posting these types of deals. It is my way of supporting an offense industry designed to capture fugitives. Plus, I would love to see one of my readers out there get lucky and actually be responsible for the capture of these thugs.
Catherine has a $100,000 reward, and Whitey has a $2 million reward. So if you actually did find Catherine, you might want to hang tight for a little bit, just to watch who she hangs out with. Just saying….lol Good luck out there, and happy hunting. –Matt

Edit: 06/23/2011- Talk about quick?  Someone turned both of these fugitives into authorities after watching the PSA.  They were in California. See the comments section below for more details.

Law Enforcement: Mafia Takedown The Largest Coordinated Arrest In FBI History

Authorities said the indictments resulted from years of investigations, including the use of wiretaps and cooperating witnesses.

“These cases are the cumulative results of years of investigative work, including the development of key cooperating witnesses, a trend that has definitely been tilting in law enforcement’s favor,” said Janice Fedarcyk, head of the New York FBI. “The vow of silence that is part of the oath Omerta is more myth than reality today.”

This is awesome news and congratulations to all those in the FBI and other agencies that put this together and pulled it off. I also love this quote up top about ‘Omerta’. lol The snitches win, and this is yet again a prime example of how effective an insider can be to tearing apart an organization. Now if we can just get a snitch to help us tear apart Al Qaeda and capture or kill UBL. –Matt

Mafia Takedown–Largest Coordinated Arrest in FBI History

01/20/11

Early this morning FBI agents and partner law enforcement officers began arresting nearly 130 members of the Mafia in New York City and other East Coast cities charged in the largest nationally coordinated organized crime takedown in the Bureau’s history.

Members of New York’s infamous Five Families—the Bonanno, Colombo, Gambino, Genovese, and Luchese crime organizations—were rounded up along with members of the New Jersery-based DeCavalcante family and New England Mafia to face charges including murder, drug trafficking, arson, loan sharking, illegal gambling, witness tampering, labor racketeering, and extortion. In one case involving the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) at the Ports of New York and New Jersey, the alleged extortion has been going on for years.

Law Enforcement: Operation Guard Shack–The FBI’s Largest Police Corruption Sweep, Puerto Rico

The arrests “are the result of Operation Guard Shack, the largest police corruption investigation in the history of the FBI,” the statement read.

“Close to 750 FBI agents were flown in to Puerto Rico from across the country to assist in the arrests” early Wednesday.

A total of 129 people including 60 Puerto Rican police officers, 16 municipal police, 12 prison officials, three Puerto Rico National Guard soldiers, and two US army officers, have been arrested.

*****

Now this is impressive and bravo to the FBI for pulling it off.  And from the looks of it, this thing looks like a Grenada style island invasion with FBI agents flown in from across the country for this operation!

On the down side, I had no idea that things were this bad in Puerto Rico?  They also nabbed some military folks in this sweep, to include two Army officers.

I would also guess that they had some serious undercover operations going on all over the island? Which would not be too difficult if you were able to insert a few agents in some key departments. Plus the whole Serpico Effect might have been in play as well.  Guys who see what is going on around them, and ‘have the courage to do what is right’ and turn in these crooked cops. With that said, I am sure a book or published studies about this operation will come out in the near future. –Matt

133 charged in FBI anti-graft sweep in Puerto Rico

October 6, 2010

WASHINGTON — US officials Wednesday unveiled the FBI’s largest ever police corruption sweep saying 133 police, prison guards and army officers have been charged in a huge anti-graft crackdown in Puerto Rico.

The suspects face charges relating to posessing and distributing cocaine, and using firearms during a drug trafficking offense, the US Department of Justice said in a statement.

Four others remain at large.

The indictments result from 125 undercover drug stings conducted by FBI agents in Puerto Rico between July 2008 and September 2010.

The defendants’ participation “consisted of providing armed protection to a drug dealer during the sale of multi-kilogram quantities of cocaine.”

If convicted the defendants face sentences “ranging from 10 years, up to life in prison,” the DOJ statement read.

“The Justice Department?s commitment to rooting out and eradicating alleged corruption in our law enforcement ranks has never been stronger,” said US Attorney General Eric Holder.

Puerto Rico is a Spanish-speaking Caribbean archipelago and US territory, which lies east of the Dominican Republic.

OPERATION GUARD SHACK

Historic Takedown in Puerto Rico

10/06/10

Early this morning the FBI launched a massive public corruption takedown in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as our agents fanned out across the island to begin arresting 133 subjects—the majority of them police officers.

In what is likely the largest police corruption case in the FBI’s history, nearly 1,000 Bureau personnel from 50 of our 56 field offices were in San Juan for the takedown.

Weapons: The FBI to Purchase The Anzio Mag-Fed 20mm Rifle

Thanks to Matt for sending me this one.  Wow, what a weapon!  This is the kind of rifle marine contractors could use on a boat.  That, along with the Neopup that Eeben introduced us to, and now we are talking about a pretty lethal capability. (the Neopup uses 20 mm x 42)

What makes 20 mm x 102 Vulcan round stand out, is that it can deliver a round at distance, and then the explosive charge is what provides the knock down power and destruction (chemical energy). The .50 cal. is mostly dependent on the kinetic force of the bullet to do all of that.  So that thing needs velocity to knock stuff down. (kinetic energy)  Although there are explosive tipped .50 cal rounds out there, I don’t think there is anything with the kind of energy that the 20 mm Vulcan can produce. Not to mention all of the interesting rounds that come in 20 mm.

I guess you could always go bigger, but the idea here is something you can transport easily that could be managed by a small team.  This rifle falls under that category in my opinion.

Here are the particulars of the contract, and I have no idea what the FBI plans on doing with these things.  They are probably using them for testing purposes, and also for having some kind of niche capability.  This would be a fantastic tool for taking out a generator at distance, or maybe taking out a vehicle or boat at distance.  It is definitely anti-material if you know what I mean.

The paint schemes might be an indicator of what they have planned.  The Navy NWV digital pattern could mean they want a gun for maritime purposes? Who knows, and maybe someone from the FBI can give us the low down?  Check out the video of this beast in action as well. –Matt
