Legal News: Navy SEALs Face Assault Charges for Capturing Blackwater Bridge Mastermind

This makes me sick.  I hope these guys are able to prove how idiotic this really is by taking it all the way to a court-martial. These three men are heroes, and should be treated as such.  Hell, I should hope that this booger eater got a big fat lip for what he did to those Blackwater men that day.  Despicable.

Also, check out this podcast here about this story. It is an interview between Uncle Jimbo of Blackfive and G. Gordon Liddy. –Matt

Navy SEALs Face Assault Charges for Capturing Most-Wanted Terrorist

Tuesday , November 24, 2009

By Rowan Scarborough

Navy SEALs have secretly captured one of the most wanted terrorists in Iraq — the alleged mastermind of the murder and mutilation of four Blackwater USA security guards in Fallujah in 2004. And three of the SEALs who captured him are now facing criminal charges, sources told FoxNews.com.

The three, all members of the Navy’s elite commando unit, have refused non-judicial punishment — called an admiral’s mast — and have requested a trial by court-martial.

Ahmed Hashim Abed, whom the military code-named “Objective Amber,” told investigators he was punched by his captors — and he had the bloody lip to prove it.

Now, instead of being lauded for bringing to justice a high-value target, three of the SEAL commandos, all enlisted, face assault charges and have retained lawyers.

Legal News: U.S. to Drop Shooting Case Against Blackwater Guard

The trial likely will hinge on whether the Blackwater guards were provoked. Iraqi witnesses say Blackwater fired the only shots. Some members of the Blackwater convoy said they saw gunfire. Others said they didn’t. Radio logs of the shooting indicate the guards were fired on.

*****

Yep, that is my thoughts on this too.  These men were operating in a war zone, and if in fact they were fired upon, then I think the prosecution does not have a case.  Instead, they will have to fall back on the BS anti-machine gun law to do any kind of damage to these men.  My guess is that this will end up just like the Haditha case, with the Marines. This is war, and to prove that these men decided to wake up one day, go on a convoy operation and deviate from the mission to purposely kill innocent people unprovoked, is a stretch. Not to mention the radio logs, the bullet holes in the vehicles and bullets in people and things.  We will see how it goes, and I truly hope for a fair trial for these guys.  God knows, everyone else has already convicted them of a crime in the court of public opinion.-Matt

US to drop shooting case against Blackwater guard

By MATT APUZZO

Nov 20, 2009

WASHINGTON – The Justice Department intends to drop manslaughter and weapons charges against one of the Blackwater Worldwide security guards involved in a deadly 2007 Baghdad shooting, prosecutors said in court documents Friday.

The shooting in busy Nisoor Square left 17 Iraqis dead and inflamed anti-American sentiment abroad. It touched off a string of investigations that ultimately led the State Department to cancel the company’s lucrative contract to guard diplomats in Iraq.

Iraqis have said they’re watching closely to see how the U.S. judicial system handles the five men accused of unleashing an unprovoked attack on civilians with machine guns and grenades.

Ken Loach taking ‘Route Irish’

Film centers on love triangle between two men and a woman

By Stuart Kemp

Nov 5, 2009

Ken Loach is reuniting with cinematographer Chris Menges on his latest film titled “Route Irish,” penned by the filmmaker’s longtime writing partner Paul Laverty and produced by Rebecca O’Brien.

Menges, whose resume boasts previous Loach movies including “Poor Cow” and “Kes,” returns to work with Loach on the movie billed as a tense love triangle between two men and a woman.

The film stars big-screen debutants Mark Womack (“Sorted”) and Andrea Lowe (“Where the Heart is”) and also boasts comedian John Bishop. They join the supporting cast of Trevor Williams and Talib Hamafraj.

It details the story of two men who work as private security contractors in Iraq who risk their lives in a city awash with violence and greed. When Frankie is killed on “Route Irish” — the road linking Baghdad airport with the Green Zone — Fergus, wracked with grief and guilt, rejects the official explanation and determines to investigate the truth of his friend’s death.

Route Irish is a Sixteen Films Why Not Prods. and Wild Bunch production made with the support of Les Films de Fleuve, BIM, Diaphana, Tornasol and Alta. Other financiers are France 2 and North West Vision Media. Wild Bunch is handling international sales at AFM.

Funny Stuff: Iraq’s Magical Bomb Finding Wand, That Doesn’t Work!– The ADE 651

It does not work.  It does not work, and you are putting the lives of Iraqis at risk, by depending on this idiotic device! There, I got that out, and can try to laugh a little about this. It’s not entirely funny, because the Iraqis have the Green Zone to protect. And judging by all the massive bombings of late, commonsense should dictate.

On another level, if they are able to convince the people that it works, then so be it.  But that will only work so long, until the booger eaters figure out that it doesn’t work.  Which they have already, and have taken advantage of this.  Hence the reason for this article.  If you are an Iraqi, and reading this, get the word out that this device does not work and demand that your government use technology that actually works. Or hey, embrace the bomb sniffing dog, and get over your disgust of the animal.  What is more important, the lives of your people, or your ego? –Matt

Iraq Swears by Bomb Detector U.S. Sees as Useless

Johan Spanner for The New York Times

A device used by Iraqi forces to detect bombs and other weapons at checkpoints has been called useless by the American military.

By ROD NORDLAND

Published: November 3, 2009

BAGHDAD — Despite major bombings that have rattled the nation, and fears of rising violence as American troops withdraw, Iraq’s security forces have been relying on a device to detect bombs and weapons that the United States military and technical experts say is useless.

Johan Spanner for The New York Times

The sensor device, known as the ADE 651, from $16,500 to $60,000 each. Iraq has bought more than 1,500 of the devices.

The small hand-held wand, with a telescopic antenna on a swivel, is being used at hundreds of checkpoints in Iraq. But the device works “on the same principle as a Ouija board” — the power of suggestion — said a retired United States Air Force officer, Lt. Col. Hal Bidlack, who described the wand as nothing more than an explosives divining rod.

Still, the Iraqi government has purchased more than 1,500 of the devices, known as the ADE 651, at costs from $16,500 to $60,000 each. Nearly every police checkpoint, and many Iraqi military checkpoints, have one of the devices, which are now normally used in place of physical inspections of vehicles.
