Industry Talk: Is Africa The Future of the Industry?

I particularly liked the last sentence in this story.  I would certainly like to see that materialize and Africa needs all the help it can get.  If you were to just look at the Sudan, you could see that if a external security force, there to keep the peace, would have saved lives.  Versus Hollywood’s approach of throw money and celebrities at the problem, yet do nothing to actually stop the crime.  Like in Iraq, it takes boots on the ground, to keep the peace, and the Private Military Industry can provide that service. –Head Jundi

Dogs of War: Back to Africa

WASHINGTON, May 30 (UPI) — Where does the future lie for the private military industry? Those who watch the industry closely have noted it tends to migrate periodically. In the beginning, mirroring human evolution, the industry emerged in Africa. The progenitor for many of today’s private security firms was the South Africa-based Executive Outcomes, which fought in Angola and Sierra Leone. (Incidentally, those truly interested in what this legendary firm did and how it worked should read the book published last year, “Executive Outcomes: Against All Odds,” by its founder, Eben Barlow.) After that, companies like U.S.-based Military Professional Resources Inc. worked in the Balkans, first for Croatia and then for Bosnia. And after that came Iraq, the mother of all private military contracting opportunities. But someday, regardless of who wins the presidential election in November, even Iraq is going to draw to a close. (more…)

Industry Talk: Blackwater and Raytheon Join Forces For Grizzly Vehicle

Interesting partnership.  I have yet to check this vehicle out in the field, and most of my experience is with older armored vehicles like the Mamba.  I look forward to what the market can produce.  And when it comes to vehicles like this, I like the words ‘fast and safe’ in the same sentence.  Now if they can put ‘fuel efficient’ in that sentence, now we are talking.  On a side note, the true test is the air conditioning unit and how dependable that will be.  If any of the engineers are reading this, it better be ice cold….I mean sweater weather in that thing.  LOL. -Head Jundi

Blackwater USA and Raytheon unveiled a prototype six-passenger Joint Light Tactical Vehicle at the U.S. Special Operations Industry Conference in Tampa, Fla., on May 21, revealing their teamed-up effort to build a survivable, mobile next-generation Humvee.

The Raytheon-Blackwater JLTV Grizzly MK VII. (Blackwater USA photo) “Our vehicle will go faster and carry more weight safely than any other JLTV,” said Blackwater USA Vice President Bill Mathews. “With Raytheon being the integrator for so many ground vehicles for C4ISR, our JLTV will have the technological equivalent of an F-18 cockpit.”

The Blackwater-Raytheon partnership aims to combine the fast, off-road vehicle expertise with the systems integration and C4ISR abilities of Raytheon. (more…)

Industry Talk: SOC looking for more guys.

SOC is still looking for security specialists, for deployment to Iraq.  This has been an ongoing thing, and this is really a prime opportunity for you guys out there that are looking to get into the industry.  The contracts are mostly site security, with a little convoy stuff.  They also manage the Ugandan security forces, that you see at their various Air Base contracts in Iraq.  The monthly pay is 9,000 a month.  -Head Jundi
